And so since Last night, I wasn't able to do much on my computer. The short was "no workie". The long of it, KDE and Gnome were both crashing for some reason. I did enough rm -Rf of temp looking files in ~/.gnome , ~/tmp, and /tmp, and not only is gnome working again, but the sound also comes up when I startup :)

... hmm... does KDE work still?
