i feel ... really kind of torn up inside ... worry, longing, fear, hope, love ... must focus on the love and know that he'll be ok ... damned it's funny how things work out.

but it's all good. he needs some time off and away from the work craziness. and i, quite frankly, really REALLY needed to start working.

now if only the dog would stay in her new play pen.

It's official, it's a wasy

the price of doing business

it's official. i just called go-today.com, and canceled my part of the vacation. mark's still going. he needs some time off.

but hey, i'm a working man and getting that paycheck :)

still, it's a hard pill to swallow.

It is a work expense

this may be an excuse, but

i did promise markie that there would be no extravagant expenses with this new job ... ie, no frivilous conspicious spending. i've already spent. visa and mc can attest to that.

however, i just dropped a few (big) pennies on some computer books. and spent a few more dollars to get them here before weeks end. i'm counting them as a work expense. still, it hurts, and i don't think markie would be happy with me spending.

she escaped in less than 30 seconds

Things to be afraid of

blanche escaped pretty quickly today. in fact, in less than the 30 seconds it took to walk downstairs, she escaped. i'm hoping that she does ok outside today.

He is trying to make me drink the Koolaid

and i'm not sure if I want to drink it

the sysadmin guy here is a big debian apt-get kind of a guy. that's all good. however, he's evangalizing why it's better then rpms, red-carpet, etc. i'm not sure i want to be drinking this koolaid, all i know for sure is that i want to get productive ASAP ! ! !

Just a little bit of X

and it's all good

Well people, I've got a working install of Linux ... err, kind of 2. I've got debian finally working on the first partition, but I am not sure what packages and all I ended up with. I had to retry a few times. The other is a HD install of knoppix ... which to be honest, I'm not sure that I really understand.

But the final word is that I've got X, and things are all good.

.... now to just figure out what my monitor can do.

And so it begins

Day one

Well, the office moved, and I followed them. So today is my first day on the job, and everyone's first day here at the new offices.

I've had to put my undergrad scavenger skills to work to find a power cable, mouse, and patch cable. My new manager procured me a spare computer, monitor, and has done intros and helped get me settled. Although ... I'm eyeing one of the plants in the server room.

Right now, I really need to do something about the display adapter. It's really REALLY painful using the default one.
